As an American, I don't find those comments, childish or arrogant. As a taxpayer who has had his hard earned money used to prop up, defend and fund the economies of untold second and third rate countries around the world, I have only disdain for those who hate the United States. It is my dream that one day we will replace the Statue of Liberty with a statue of a large middle finger aimed across the Atlantic.
I see where the Germans and Italians have opted not to help the U.S. in it's fight against terrorists. Good. Maybe we'll remember that next time they ask us for something. But I doubt it.

i know they're not allowed to fight in war, but are they allowed to be chefs for soldiers, for example.. when cornelius became christian, the bible doesn't say that he left his military career.. furthermore, matthew 5:41: "if someone in authority impresses you for a mile, go with him two miles.".

I'm not certain how much "new light" has been introduced on the subject of military service for JW's but I do remember back in the 1960's the Watchtower had a series of Sunday study articles on blood guilt. The theory put forth was that simply being a member of the military in any capacity made one blood guilty in God's eyes. A supply clerk was just as guilty as a fighter pilot. I remember at the time thinking, after Armageddon will Jehovah assign the same blood guilt to himself.
As to Fredhall's comment about the bible not saying that Cornelius remained in the Roman army, it also did not say that he left. That's a strange ommission for such a serious matter as blood guilt. Isn't it?
i have no way of knowing if this is true and i have my doubts, but my jw mother called a few minutes ago to inform me that at her meeting today they announced that there are about 100 jw's missing in the wtc destruction.
i guess that rules this out as having anything to do with armageddon or they wouldn't be missing.
or else their door to door activity didn't measure up.. she also told me that the nyc fire department was making use of an empty watchtower building during the cleanup.
You know, I have been lied to by JW's so many times about these kinds of things, perhaps I am a bit cynical. But you know, 100 is such a neat little number and if it isn't true, then it is the JW's who are trying, for whatever reason, to exploit this tragedy. I really couldn't care less what the religion of the victims is. I hope some more of them are found safely.
In addition, isn't it unusual for the WTS to provide any aid of any kind to a non-Witness tragedy? But if they did, then I'm glad they did.

Well, considering that the society's buildings are across the river in Brooklyn and I've never known the society to have any empty buildings there, I find this hard to believe. Can anyone else confirm this. Or is this just more BS being fed the flock?
